GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

20 May 2010
A socializing event took place on Thursday, 20 May 2010, in the Jazz hotel. Approximately 30 translators and interpreters, both experienced and beginners, took part in a party dedicated to communication among translators. The young translators could meet the professionals, members of the ATP Moldova, but also the representatives of a number of translation bureaus present at this event. Good mood and the comfortable feeling of being among the ones you belong to dominated the entire party. The journalist Victoria Tataru wrote an article about this event.

CHRISTMAS PARTY

December 2009
This year Christmas was customary, but still it differed significantly from similar parties in the past.
ATP Moldova celebrated together with guests from the high school ‘Hyperion’ of Durleşti, who enchanted us with the big number of carols they sang to us. The dances performed by these wonderful children constituted the most exciting moment of the evening. The visit of Santa Claus was the biggest surprise of the party, who somehow overlooked us in the previous years. Everybody present at the party got some witty dicta selected by our colleague Natalia Conovca. Indeed, it was a shame to miss such a beautiful event.

TEAMWORK

November 2009
ATP Moldova had the opportunity to prove once again how beneficial it is to work together with the colleagues you know and can rely upon. It was the translation of the National Human Development Report for 2009-2010 developed by UNDP Moldova carried out by our colleagues Elena Bivol, Svetlana Chiriţa and Eleonora Rusnac. This assignment was a good learning opportunity for us. We learned to: use a concise and accurate style; use simple language, understandable to the general public; use a rich vocabulary and avoid repetitions; meet different formatting requirements; and, most importantly adjust and streamline styles and terms.

We mention this experience to tell our clients: You can trust us. We know how to do a good translation!

HEARTFELT MEETING

August 2009
ATP has had recently a meeting with two translators with great experience and great love for the profession of translator, namely Ms. Eugenia David and Vlad Pohilă. According to them "Translation is so great!" and "Artistic translation is a miracle!" Those who attended the meeting were captivated by many stories from the past and present, retold by our guests.
Other ideas highlighted by our guests were: "Translation is difficult but not impossible", "Translation is 1% talent and 99% elbow grease", etc.
Vlad Pohilă pinpointed a number of requirements for becoming a good translator. He made a nice statement regarding the knowledge of one’s native language, namely "One can discover the beauty of his/her mother tongue only by comparing it with other languages.”

NEW EXPERIENCE

June 2009
In June 2009, five ATP Moldova members provided services to a Japanese mission, representatives of JICA. The expectations of the Japanese delegation from the team of translators exceeded significantly the narrow business of translation. Interpreters had to operate as local consultants in a large number of areas. For example Elena Bivol was the main "expert" in banking and finance. Eleonora Rusnac had to perform an extensive "liaison" activity. Maria Postevcă was the interpreter with most stamina for she had to interpret during interviews lasting 4 hours and more. Natalia Conovca, our young yet experienced colleague, was in charge of long distance trips and did well. And finally, Inesa Foltea was the most skilled of us when it came to making appointments.
We expect other partners of the ATP Moldova to try and benefit of such team services provided by the Association.
